About Us

Our Mission

The mission of the Jefferson County Association of Pharmacy is to advance pharmacy practice and public health through support, connection, and service. We remain responsive to the needs of our members and the evolving landscape of the pharmacy profession.

Our History

Serving Pharmacy Since 1962

The Jefferson County Association of Pharmacy (JCAP) has served as the professional home for pharmacists in Jefferson County and the surrounding region since 1962.

Formed through the merger of the Jefferson County Pharmaceutical Society and the Louisville Retail Druggists Association, JCAP has long supported pharmacists across all practice settings. In 2026, the organization rebranded to reflect its evolving role and continued commitment to advancing the profession as a unified association.

Our Purpose

JCAP exists to support and strengthen the pharmacy profession by:

  • Uniting pharmacists across all practice settings

  • Strengthening interprofessional relationships within healthcare

  • Promoting public health and community engagement

  • Providing a forum to address challenges shaping the practice of pharmacy

How We Show Up

For decades, JCAP members have actively served the community and profession through:

• National Pharmacy Week activities

• Diabetic Detection Week

• Poison Prevention Week

• Community Health Week

• Educational dinners and CE programs

• Annual meetings and member gatherings

• State and local advocacy initiatives

Evolving with the Profession

The practice of pharmacy continues to evolve rapidly. Over the years, our members have navigated:

• Expanding counseling and DUR responsibilities

• The growth and complexity of Medicare Part D

• Controlled substance monitoring and opioid stewardship

• DIR fee and reimbursement pressures

• DSCSA compliance and supply chain accountability

• Workforce shortages and burnout

• The rise of direct-to-consumer pharmacy models

• Increasing regulatory and clinical expectations

Through each shift, JCAP has remained a trusted resource—helping pharmacists adapt, connect, and lead within a changing healthcare landscape.

Advancing the Profession

Across the nation, pharmacists continue to advocate for recognition of their clinical expertise and contributions to patient care.

While provider status remains an important element of long‑term advancement, it is one part of a broader effort to ensure pharmacists can fully engage in care delivery, innovation, and leadership.

JCAP supports initiatives that strengthen the profession, expand opportunities for clinical engagement, and improve access to care for the communities we serve.

Our Work, Today

As healthcare continues to evolve, JCAP remains adaptive while staying grounded in its mission. Today, our focus includes:

Advocacy
Amplifying the voice of pharmacists on local and state issues that impact practice and patient care.

Networking
Creating opportunities for professional connection, mentorship, and collaboration.

Volunteering & Community Impact
Supporting public health initiatives and service projects that strengthen our communities.

These efforts ensure JCAP remains a strong, connected, and locally engaged professional organization.

Powered by Our Members

A recurring theme throughout our history has been the importance (and challenge) of maintaining active, engaged membership.

JCAP’s strength comes from pharmacists and technicians who contribute their ideas, expertise, and leadership.

With broader participation from eligible professionals across our region, JCAP could become the largest pharmacy organization in Kentucky, positioning us to meaningfully influence practice, policy, and patient care.

Be Part of What’s Next

Whether you are a pharmacist, technician, student, or supporter of the profession, your involvement strengthens our collective voice.

Become a member. Volunteer. Bring a colleague. Engage in advocacy.

Together, we can advance pharmacy practice, expand patient access, and help shape the future of healthcare in our region.
